Stock Market

Stock market’s down today
What are the reasons
Volatile trades held sway
Through Autumn’s season
Some days it’s up way high
Only to drop way low
The pundits tell us why
But really they don’t know
Is it political?
On that I’m on the fence
Or economical?
That doesn’t make much sense
What really drives the DOW
Are people’s fears and greed
Plus those few who know how
To make us suckers bleed
Be all that as it may
I think stock’s in a bubble
Not much beyond this day
We’re in for lots of trouble
When bubbles like this burst
They faster fall than rose
They fall to where at first
They started, so it goes
Economies decay
Recession grips the land
One’s politics will pay
A price for where one stands
My sense of timing’s pace
No market resurrection
Is likely to take place
Before the next election

Conclusions

As most of you know oft I jump to conclusions
In some poelitical poems I post
Some label me, “seer”, some call it delusion
Be that as it may, it’s what I enjoy most

Often my tellings are really quite obvious
Junkies of politics on the Dem. side
Watch the same channels whose views are commodious
Others who join me are there for the ride

In ten days or less, so the pundits are citing
That something’s afoot in the investigation
That Mueller’s conducting, like maybe indicting
Trump’s buddies or even Trump’s family relations

I’ll venture the guess it will be Roger Stone
The link between Trump and one Julian Assange
The founder of Wikileaks who is the one
Who leaked stolen Emails from Clinton’s campaign

Matt Whitaker, Acting (but phony) AG
Most likely has briefed Trump on Mueller’s intentions
Which caused Trump depression, the worst we have seen
All that plus Trump’s thumping from midterm elections

Matt was made Acting as Trump’s hatchet man
To stifle Bob Mueller’s effective outcomes
I doubt if he’ll last long enough for Trump’s plan
His past will be difficult to overcome

There’s lots more on which I would like to conjecture
On Fathullah Gulen and Prince MBS
Who ordered Khashoggi killed. Trump’s a denier
But now I’m too tired to write, I confess

May You Live In Interesting Times

This curse, ancient China, seems apt for today
Just think, we’re it Hillary President now
Would Dems. have prevailed in the midterms this way
And captured the House? I most certainly doubt

Trump’s made our times interesting if nothing else
He’s done lots of damage and trampled our norms
And we’ve had to live with the cards we were dealt
His ego, his lawlessness, lies and his storms

The cup’s not half empty, it’s really half full
Dem’s turnout this midterm was larger by far
Than it’s been for decades, so let’s not be fooled
Trump spurred us to join in political war

Our big test is coming just two years away
To maintain our fervor and build on our gains
To rescue the White House and Senate that day
These interesting times will have not been in vain

Kyrsten

Kyrsten has won and we all say hooray
The Democrats had a victorious day
My state’s on its way to becoming true blue
It’s thanks to Pres. Trump that our blue numbers grew
But Martha McSally may have the last word
My guess: an appointment will bring her aboard

The message of mid-term’s one-sided results:
Denouncement of D.T. in all of his faults
The nation has spoken; let’s get past the past
And work now together for freedom to last
The nation’s hard problems deserve to be solved
No better agenda both sides to resolve

Eleven, Eleven, Eleven, Eleven

Sixteen million lives were lost; the war to end all wars
That war was just the prelude to a greater war that reared
Der Fuhrer was a Nationalist – all Europe was destroyed
And Europe’s bitter memories kept peace some eighty years

But memories have died away; each generation new
Learns not the lessons of the past, embracing fascist ways
Of white supremacy, opposed in everything they do
To unifying institutions keeping Europe safe

It does appear our President abets these right-wing kooks
Embracing their philosophy, our institutions damned
He’s ignorant of history; he never reads a book
With right-wing, dire conspiracies his mixed-up head is crammed

Profoundly I salute all you who’ve served to keep us free
But I denounce draft-dodger Trump whose term has been a bane
Who abrogates what you fought for; no patriot is he
He’ll not achieve what he conceives; your time’s not been in vane

Popcorn and Beer

Rachel Maddow announced that over 900 groups across the nation will be demonstrating against the Trump appointment of Matt Whitaker to AG after firing Jeff Sessions. These demonstrations are scheduled for 5:PM local time. I suggest that, if you are interested, contact your local Indivisible organization for details.

Popcorn and Beer

Popcorn and beer an election night treat
We gorged as we watched the returns coming in
We mentally cheered when the Dems. flipped a seat
By late in the evening we knew Dems. would win

They took back the House but then not quite the Senate
But held the Reps. winning to two extra seats
A wave in the House, the new thirty had won it
Pres. Trump had just witnessed a crushing defeat

Trump realized he had to do swiftly his plan
Before Democrats took control of the House
To get rid of Sessions and put in his man
As Acting AG who could kick Mueller out

Matt Whitaker, chosen as Acting AG
Is known to be strongly against the Trump probe
And probably pledged Trump his strong fealty
And knee cap the probe satisfying Trump’s hopes

It’s time now to demonstrate, time to be heard
Obstruction of justice we’ll not tolerate
By Matt or by Donald, let’s send them the word
Indictment, impeachment may thus be their fate

Voting

Tuesday coming up, the nation votes
All those who by now haven’t voted yet
‘Twill be a record turnout pollsters note
Of those that can, some half the polls may get

So why do voters stay away from polls?
Are they just lazy, maybe something else?
Perhaps indifference to the words and goals
Of running candidates in TV ads that yell

They recognize that they are uninformed
That ads are often stating lies as truths
That blatant party bias is the norm
They dread the act of entering the booth

They do not want to vote their ignorance
They wouldn’t know if they were wrong or right
Their vote is worse than being meaningless
It could do damage worsening some plight

But those of us familiar with the news
How much is our vote out of ignorance?
How much do we vote other people’s views?
How much do we reflect our prejudice?

It is a hard endeavor in our press
Of many tasks we daily want to do
To take the time to keep ourselves abreast
To vote our knowledge and our conscience too

Antisemitism

Prejudice against the Jews has been their fate
It’s probably the oldest one around
That has survived millennial years of hate
Out-cropping when it’s fertile grounds abound

Its why’s and wherefore’s have been studied much
By scholarly historians in their hosts
Their reasons shift with shifting winds, as such
They’re easy prey, too powerful, scapegoats

The Arabs claim they are not anti-Jews
Their beef is with Israelis not with Jews
Israeli Subjects of their wrath are Jews
And were they not, theirs would be different views

The Jews in colleges are held responsible
For Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians
By ”progressive” students’ hatred palpable
Who claim the moral high ground’s their opinion

But what connects these prejudicial norms
From Cossack pogroms to the Tree of Life,
From holocausts to many simpler forms
That Jews endure throughout their daily lives?

I say it’s fear, unmitigated fear
Historically mysterious ethics people
Irrational, deep seated, psychic fear
Expressed against God’s firstly Chosen People

A Glimmer of Light

A thoughtful BLOG subscriber, lady Leigh
Made comments on the poelitic, Hate
Amidst the antisemitism, she
Could see a hopeful glimmer, feint, of light

“M Power Change” and “Celebrate Mercy”, too
Both Pittsburgh Muslim active organizations
Began a fund to help the mourning Jews
To lay to rest their dead, their contribution

They raised one hundred thousand for their plight
And all across the nation candle throngs
Of solemn marchers of all faiths shined bright
The glimmer grew to many thousand strong

This country will not tolerate such hate
Of Jews, of Muslims, Blacks and Browns, and Asians
Of caravans escaping killer states
We are the melting pot of many nations

Love

Love is not the opposite of hate
It is the conjugate
Encompassing a wide range of emotions
While hate is simply and intensely hate

Love embraces, hate consumes
Robert Bowers was consumed, was overpowered
He had to kill the Jews
They were the force behind Trump’s caravan
Of murderous illegals marching to invade

In love we mourn their deaths
And celebrate their lives

Like you I’ve witnessed on TV mass murderings
With empathy my heart reached to embrace those left to mourn
I wrote to Congress and contributed
To no avail

This time I felt it differently
Since I’m a Jew. I once lived there in Squirrel Hill
These were my people being killed

And now my feelings seem more clarified
The pain is sharper; empathy on steroids
Not just for Tree of Life – the victims and survivors
But also for all other victims murdered thus

A deeper manifestation of what’s love
