Hunter and Joe

Much news about Hunter and Joe this past week
The President’s mantra on cable and tweets
That Joe was corrupt when he dealt with Ukraine
To favor son Hunter’s large personal gain

Trump knows that repeating a lie many times
Will foster belief Joe committed a crime
Requesting Ukraine to create trumped up proof
‘Twill be his undoing; Trump clearly did goof

But what really happened with Hunter and Joe?
These facts I have gleaned from the ones in the know
Reported in WAPO, the Times and Atlantic
Meanwhile Trump is acting as though in a panic

In twenty fourteen in Ukraine there was turmoil
Burisma, producer of gas and crude oil
Was being examined for blatant corruption
The Chief Prosecutor was causing disruption

But Shokin, himself, was corrupt through and through
Ukrainians, U.S., IMF and E.U.
All wanted him out; Biden let Ukraine know
That their loan guarantees would be held until so

Along about then Biden’s son was invited
To be on the board of Burisma, entitled
To be compensated five-oh grand per month
Young Hunter agreed; he’d been down in the dumps

Unlike big brother, Beau, sterling fellow he wasn’t
Black sheep of the family his life less than pleasant
Like many offspring of well known politicians
He traded Joe’s fame to obtain good positions

Joe walled off himself from his son’s business dealings
They weren’t his business, no matter his feelings
But here’s where I posit that Joe failed the smell test
Joe’s actions appeared like a conflict of interest

‘Though no law was broken by Joe or by Hunter
There’s just enough there there for people down under
To gin up conspiracies for Trump to tweet
But this time they backfired with Trump taking heat

Be that as it may, whether Trump is impeached
Trump’s Biden attacks many voters they’ve reached
Reducing Joe’s chances to win at the polls
Accomplishing one of Trump’s primary goals

Not stupid is Mike, Trump’s Dep. State Secretary
A grad of West Point and of Harvard law school
A former Director of Central Intelligence
Also a right leaning member of Congress
So clearly Pompeo is nobody’s fool
You’d think joining Trump, of it he would be wary

But Mike is ambitious politically so
He sees in his future vice presidency
And then on as President following Trump
Toward what might advance his agenda he’ll jump
He’ll put up with Trump’s blatant idiocies
And where Trump will take him he’ll willingly go

But Trump has the opposite of Midas touch
Whoever works with him is snared in his cult
Of lawless corruption throughout all his days
Corruption is catchy in so many ways
A subtle transition not realizing fault
Until it’s too late, you’re corrupted as such

We’ve talked of the phone call, July twenty fifth
Between the two presidents, Trump and Zelensky
Where Trump used extortion against the Ukraine
By withholding money for armaments aid
To counter their Soviet occupancy
Until they, on Biden provided false filth

It turns out Pompeo sat in on the call
But kept that news secret from Congress and Press
Then WAPO found out and reported the truth
That Mike was a witness although he was mute
So far he’s avoided their questions when pressed
Nor has he denied that he listened to all

Not stupid is Mike, he most surely did know
That Trump’s conversation was counter to law
And surly would be an offense most impeachable
Yet he said nothing, Itself reprehensible
Painting him party to Trump’s legal flaws
And sullied his future, politically so

Swift Moving Politics

Swift moving politics like breaker waves fast racing to the beach
Two hundred nineteen Democrats, the House, preparing to impeach
The White House memo on Zelensky’s call with Trump they did provide
The whistleblower’s full complaint-report has been declassified
And on the morrow, in the morning, it will be released
The breaking news keeps coming fast as though it will not cease
These truly are historic times, events outside convention
My message is that all of us should closely pay attention

How mighty the whistling sounds of the blower
‘Though Trump tries to mute them the sounds still are heard
Throughout much of Congress Republicans cower
While Democrats rally around the “I” word

A sea change in politics Trump has unleashed
Extorting Zelensky, Pres. of the Ukraine
The ultimate act that will get Trump impeached
And render the Senate Democratic Again

It won’t be straightforward with bumps all along
The Senate Republicans fear Donald’s tweets
They will not convict him; his hold is too strong
As such, all those running are doomed to defeat

It’s risky, I know, to put forth these predictions
There‘re still many pitfalls until the election
My statements are fueled by an inner conviction
An ultimate faith in the public’s reactions

Global Climate Strike

I am impressed with young Greta Thumberg
A Swedish teenager who stayed from her school
To sit out on strike ‘till her message was heard
The planet is warming we must stop the fuel

Soon others joined Greta; they, too, went on strike
The movement through media encompassed the globe
One fifty world nation’s today joined in strike
O’er four million protesters marched so to show

That words aren’t enough, action now must take place
To stop global warming before it’s too late
At risk at this juncture’s the whole human race
But President Trump acts in sheer retrograde

He canceled Obama-sourced climate-change standards
Reducing industrial dirty emissions
He stopped California from setting its standards
On future gas mileage and auto emissions

This move is to favor the oil producers
Ensuring they maintain their volume of sales
But car manufacturers, main oil users,
Clearly oppose Trump in hoping this fails

The rest of the world is becoming aware
That real climate change is now happening fast
And thanks to young Greta more people now care
Political action may happen at last

Now that the Senate and part of the House
Are part of the White House executive branch
Trump knows he is free from all laws there about
No matter his actions there’re none that he can’t

Trump’s claimed exec privilege for all of his minions
All those who have ever with Trump been involved
That they’re not to testify, facts nor opinions
Before House committees. This Trump has resolved

The chairmen have challenged Trump, suing in court
Since oversight’s Congress’s specified role
But it all takes time for a judgement report
In the meantime Trump’s clearly achieving his goal

Of note, very recently, a whistleblower
Reported an incident of grave concern
To the IG of Intel who relayed it over
Direct to the DNI, we have learned

Who, within a week, was required by law
To inform the Congress’s Intel committee
Which he hasn’t done; the conclusion we draw:
The White House forbade him from doing his duty

The Post revealed some of the incident’s content
They told that a phone conversation occurred
Between Trump and some foreign listening agent
Where secretly Trump made a promise, his word

The whistleblower believed this was critical
And very urgent for Congress to know
But Trump squelched this message since it was inimical
Clear, now, it’s not where, next, Congress will go

“Locked and loaded”, Trump is ready
Authorized? No! Doesn’t matter
With the Kingdom we’ve no treaty
But we’ll fight their hot-war battles

In response to drone attacks
Against the Saudi oil complex
Yemen claimed ‘Twas them, in fact
But Intel thinks Iran suspect

Now, MBS, Crown Saudi Prince
Is looking where to place the blame
Knowing he can then convince
Our President to play his game

And Trump was nearly incoherent
He’d meet Khomeini, sans conditions
When this news of his intent
Was aired he called it “fake” revision

It does appear that MBS
Will be dictating our reply
And where that leads, I’ll let you guess
He’ll fight ‘till our last soldier dies

My Latest Guess

The news from MSNBC we heard today
What Maddow and O’Donnell sadly had to say
What Trump has done, is doing, so to have his way
Is leaving me depressed

I’ve written much concerning Trump’s depravities
How toward our nation’s norms he lacks propriety
But what we learned today exceeds in gravity
His deeds which I’ve addressed

Ukraine, you know, has been, by Russia under threat
Obama started programs that the threat be met
But Trump is killing these with every chance he gets
With Putin he’s obsessed

The other bit of news that worries me a lot
Iran’s resuming research nuclear that’s hot
And building centrifuges, actions that Trump wrought
Their rate is now express

Now certain other nations of the Middle East
Will buy or build such weapons so to keep the pace
An arms-race nuclear is slated to take place
To Israel’s distress

This brings me to this sad but probable prediction
That Israel will begin a war of interdiction
Against Iran with Trump approving with conviction
This is my latest guess

Every time the furtive Trump administration
Orders actions counter to our population’s
Health, well-being and a healthy nation
I think it can’t get worse

Trump canceled TPP and climate-change accords
The nuclear Iran agreement Trump destroyed
And safety practices no longer need employed
It makes me want to curse

Trump’s treatment of our would-be immigrants
Who seek asylum from their country’s miscreants
As though sub-human, nasty deviants
My criticism’s terse

Trump’s latest edict sentencing sick kids in beds
On medical deferment to their certain death
That they must leave their hospitals and soon be dead
It leaves me without words
