The Right Stuff

I’m old enough; I’ve witnessed on TV
Some great events that earmark where and when,
And push the envelope of what we can achieve:
First US man in space, his name, John Glenn

20 February, 62
John sat atop a rocket blasting off
The people held their breath until the news
That Glenn was safely back from space aloft

Today, age 95, John passed away
His legacy of good and brave and tough
Is one to teach our kids to emulate
Farewell to John, the man who had “right stuff”

What Will Our Grandkids Say?

I daily read and listen to the news
A lot of things do fill my thoughts with dread
Like candidates for posts whereof their views
Are counter to the agencies they’d head

But there’s one Trump appointment that stands out
It promises an existential threat
Not just to us but to the world throughout
And many generations unborn yet

Trump’s man, Scott Pruitt, picked, for what it’s worth,
To head the EPA, the agency
That works to slow the warming of the Earth
A man whose views are opposite, you see

This message to all Senators, I send
Reject Trump’s choice to run the EPA
Good life on Earth may on this choice depend
When they look back what will our grandkids say?

Really?

Hey hey Mr. President Elect
You want us to give you respect
When your words are so suspect?
Really?

Hey hey Mr. President to be
When advisors spread conspiracies
As truth, and you don’t see?
Really?

Hey hey Mr. President so new
That your businesses you pursue
In office sans conflict, true?
Really?

Hey hey Mr. President Elect
If this is what we can expect,
Disaster may be the effect
Really

Twenty Twenty

Twenty Twenty

Twenty twenty vision bright
Next election now in sight
Someone known has tossed his hat
Someone who knows where he’s at
It’s not someone who’ll be hiding
Yes, you guessed it; he’s Joe Biden

Democrats do need a plan
One that can unite the clan
Bring together left and right
Help the helpless in their plight
Stand against Trump’s stupid stands
Is Joe Biden the right man?

Twenty twenty vision bright
Is there daylight after night?

Tweetfull

Tweetfull

Tweety Dee and tweety dumb
Trump keeps tweeting ’til we’re numb
Tweets how awful SNL
Tweets their program humor smells
Tweets about his conversations
With the heads of fascist nations
Tweets of those who criticize him
Tweets that he’s unjustly victim
Tweets and re-tweets day and night
Tweeting all his many slights
From all of this it’s evident
He’ll be a tweetfull President

The Flapping Butterfly

I wonder how FBI Comey is feeling
Now that his blunders have shaken the world
There’s clear evidence that his words unappealing
Caused more undecideds to give Trump a whirl

Trump promised he’d really shake Washington up
His lack of discretion, refusing the views
Of Cabinet experts, this blundering pup
Has Washington people all shaking in shoes

It’s strange how a thoughtless mistake by one guy
Can reap repercussions that change history’s course
Trump’s blunders could bring wars where millions could die
Great storms can be traced to a butterfly source

China-Store Bull

A proverbial bull in a store full of china
Is Trump running rampant through foreign affairs
His phone call today to the Taiwanese state
Was Ignorance leaping, imperiling our fate
The way it was done making no one aware
Could upset our fragile relations with China

Afghanistan, Philippines, Taiwan and more
Wherever Trump’s interests commercial are set
It’s there where Trump calls giving nary a care
To mutual relations, of things to beware
Where offhand remarks could be viewed as a threat
A world of uncertainty’s what we’re in for

REALITY

The good old Don Trumple we knew on the stump
Appears is still with us, ‘though President next
He held a big rally like candidate Trump
With his standard lies and aggrandizing text

Trump needs adulation by his loyal crew
It’s his affirmation of how he’s so great
They live in his bubble where Trump speaks the truth
And actual REALITY can’t penetrate

It’s what to expect of this presidency
With pretense and falsehoods pervading the news
A challenge for newscasters: REALITY
To dig deep to find truth to put in your views

12/1/16

Divest?

Trump tweeted this morning he’ll no longer be
In charge of his empire, vast as it is
He’ll legally transfer control to his kids
Regarding his holdings he’ll be worry free

As such he can concentrate all of his time
On running the country and running the World
Avoiding appearances, claims that were hurled
Of conflicts of interest, committing of crimes

In looks superficial it seems to be great
But none of his holdings was Trump to divest
Another Trump scam just like all of the rest
We’ve voted a con man to be head of state

Apprentice?

Trump ‘s gaudy parade of proposed candidates
For senior positions in his Cabinet
Except for a few who’re at least second rate
They appear to be choices he’ll come to regret

They oft have opinions that don’t square with Trump
And little real knowledge concerning their post
Or records to cause them the Senate to dump
They’re hardly the people ’bout whom we would boast

Trump seems to be running Apprentice writ big
A TV performance where he’s number one
He’s capturing cameras, which he really digs
It hardly bodes well for the Country he’ll run
