Why do you sleep so sound?
Pres. Trump’s officers is a comin’

Each time I hear Trump recite the score
I turn both hearing aids off
He just tells us facts as he makes them up
With the truth all over the floor

Hey people, people what you gonna do?
Go back to sleep while Trump takes over everything?
Corruption Inc. Trump has become, relieving you your money
Democracy can be restored; it’s really up to you

The joy of joining others working toward its restoration
The satisfaction that you’ll feel with positive results
I’d start with “Indivisible” to tell you what’s available
Wake up and join, elated you, for your participation

Depressed? Take new AF1 for a lift
No, not those made here, although they are the best,
The no-strings-attached, hand-me-down Qatari gift
Their sky-castle-two gracing skies of the west

Just like a babyTrump’s down on his knees
To be like an Amir, and fly the world’s skies
I must have that airplane! Oh please Congress PLEASE
And if I don’t get it, I surely will cry

Some 400 million they say is its price
Gifted they say, since unable to sell
But Donald will take it since that is his vice
And fly like an Amir. It’s his show-and-tell

I did receive responses from you, almost every one
Responding to my poem named Apology
They were supportive of the message I’d begun
Defeating Trump’s dictatorship, make high priority

If this is not among your things to do
And you’re not open to what e’er I say
Then, what I have to say is not for you
You further need not read. Go on your way

In prior Poelitics poems I described
The nature of dictatorships in my experience
And of my goal to help them peacefully to die
My question: what approach would do this best?

One Reader felt I was too negative in judgments
That they would only make the matter worse
I say to Reader offer an approach toward what you meant
The devil’s in the details, truth, of course

The same I ask of all of you, what do you think would work?
So far it’s demonstrations, people marching by the thousands
That worked the best in countering some edicts Trump put forth
It must be done for case by case just knowing where Trump stands

For you who do participate I welcome to the fight
Be ready for the long haul; do as much as you are able
Most every effort counts converting darkness into light
And thanks for your support; it buoys me to a higher level

I have been criticized for being so judgmental
To those I have offended, I apologize
But when it comes to fascist governments
I literally see red before my eyes

In two and ninety years I’ve been alive
I’ve witnessed wars, the holocaust, much death
In youth I was obsessed dictatorships might thrive
Democracy would see its bitter end

I deeply did not want this to take place
To our defense I would apply my skills
And spent the years competing in an arm’s-war race
Where one’s success was measured by the number killed

As I look back, I ponder what was gained and lost
What difference did my efforts make toward my objective?
Democratic we still are but weakened much; therein the cost
The siren song , dictatorship, has captured Representatives

It’s not my business your priorities
In how you choose your precious time to spend
And so sincerely I apologize
To hurt you wasn’t ever my intent

And so exists an operation that I’ll call the project
It involves financial transfers, money in and out
Like other operations, it runs well; no one objects
Employees do their tasks; it’s what smooth ops is all about

Along comes Elon Musk to take control and do his thing
He fires half its staff expecting all the work still done
And publicly declares how now the fortune this will bring
Meanwhile the project’s operations to the ground they run

It’s Musk’s M.O. applied to governmental projects
It matters not which one, it’s really clear what to expect
The project’s doomed to chaos, having lost the world’s respect
And so I’ve come to label it the Elon Musk Effect

Trump-centered world, a world of turmoil
Now! It’s now it’s happening
Not somewhere in future. No
Not history where scholars go
But chaos as a daily thing
That brings Trump’s politics to boil.

Helplessness is mostly our response of choice
Of course we see what Trump’s begun
And we decry it vocally
To those who’ll hear us locally
But it’s priority’s not one
‘Though we applaud those fighting back, of course

So, most of us will nothing do
Except to donate to the fight
As though it meets our obligation
Simply making a donation
Dwell on it. Is that alright?
Is this the best that we can do?

Afraid I am to turn the TV on
‘Cause everything I see and hear is Trump
Trump this, Trump that
Where news is at
He’s always central when the news is dumped
No happenings not Trump, the world beyond

This is no accident, it is Trump’s way
To guarantee he dominates the news
Preposterous
What’s said to us
By Trump, but meant for casters of his views
He sucks from air its oxygen in what he says

Reporters at news conferences
Get captured in Trump’s web of lies
They challenge not
The truth forgot
And pass on Trump’s outlandish new surprises
That trump all other world wide incidences

Aftermaths to big events are often hard to analyze
Especially when they’re felt throughout the world
And just when you’re convinced there won’t be any more surprises
Another bomb financially absurd the Trump then hurls

You tend to think that he’s gone mad, six trillion dollars lost so far
A tariffs trade war with those who were once our allies loyal
But traders most astute will recognize just where we are
That Trump will u-turn; countries will, then, kiss the ring that’s royal

With opportunities galore; the market being grossly over sold
Due to panic selling, while Trump spent his days at golf
A month ago I liquidated most of stocks I hold
I think it’s time to buy back in, perhaps, at roughly half

By this I’m not advising you, just telling my intent to do
A master con man Trump still is; a fortune he and his will make
I’m not foreseeing future sights, just following the logic through
The next few days will prove me right or wrong, for heaven’s sake

Tariff-Trump, or TT, I shall label him for short
He struck today, a big, big way beyond his normal sport
His victim countries numbered fifty nine and maybe more
He plans to levy Tariffs on them all across the board

It’s TT’s way to make his victim trading countries pay
Since TT has convinced his MAGAs: tariffs work that way
Be it’s not so, the largest victim is the U.S.A.
Consumers, you and me, we pay that tax, end of the day

Tariffs were invented to rebalance net goods flow
When import dollars grow and export dollars drop below
Then negative the net trade balance: country’s money’s gone
This deficit is filled by tariffs, taxing everyone

Our deficit with China, it’s the largest one of all
In billions nearly negative three hundred; one day’s fall
However, most our deficits are less than single digit
Dollars in the billions. Yet each got a TT tariff

Percentage wise the largest tariff, fifty points all told
Was levied on Saint Pierre and Miquelon an island bold
That’s off the toe of Italy, who’s deficit’s three million
They surely don’t deserve the hit; their threat to us so mini

So what does all this mean to you and me, short term and long?
Stock markets crashed four points or more in panic selling strong
Long term, expect inflation rates to soar; employment drop
Expect recession deep and steady ‘till the tariffs stop

These listed things will happen, mark my words and you will see
That is unless the tariffs are removed soon by TT
Then back to TT chaos and confusion – normalcy
Except some dollars fewer I expect for you and me

A while it’s been since last I wrote a poelitic poem
It’s zero, not because there’s nothing worth to write
Both Don and Elon issuing bad orders out of sight
And I preoccupied have been with issues of my own

Things not normally newsworthy taking on new life
A tariff war with former trading partners escalating
Key firings and massive layoffs, government mis-functioning
Plus real-time, secret military actions publicized

All levels of the courts have busy been like bumblebees
Striking down Trump’s orders; Constitutional they’re not
And on and on, day after day the news runs cold and hot
I really feel for cablers who choose from what they see

An underlying pattern in the news though details differ
Trump tests his base to ferret out dissent wherever ‘tis
He takes the action; raising outrage, Dems. against what is
Courts then reject it, causing chaos. Trump then tries it stiffer

And so, dear reader, thank you for your patience and support
It’s my intention to continue once my issues are resolved
Then I’ll concentrate on details, how I would the problem solve
Until that time I wish you well. It’s been my pleasure, been my sport
