Day of Independence

On this day of Independence,
Year two hundred forty nine
We’re politically dependent
On the whims of just one man

Republicans just caved to Donald
Passed his ugly legislation
Left the lower classes troubled
Billionaires now all elated

What’s in the bill is bad enough
Millions lose their health insurance
Life for them will turn to tough
‘Twill be a matter of endurance

But what I want to talk about
Is Senators Republican
Who knew the bill was bad, no doubt
To vote a NO, they said they can’t
Since Trump would make life miserable
He’d put an end to their career
He knows where they are vulnerable
He wouldn’t stop. Of this they fear

So, if you’re one who voted yea
You gave Trump power over you
You proved you’ll do what e’er he says
And vote the way he wants you to
The fact the bill is terrible
For those who cast their vote for you
You’ve made their lives unbearable
You weren’t elected them to screw

But, hey, you’re still a senator
With ‘honorable’ before your name
With all the trappings ministered
Your senate seat still has your name
But power you no longer have
You’ve given it away to Trump
Your base, no longer you they love
You’ve proven you’re a simple chump

There’s one thing more, I might opine
Its time for you your post resign
