Coin Toss
It’s “heads, I win and tails, you lose”
That’s Trump’s approach to this pandemic
Each State is on its own to choose
It’s openings, but economic
Happenings redound to Trump
If things go well, but if they don’t
He’ll blame the State out on the stump
Providing leadership he won’t
Trump joined with tweets the right-wing mob
With calls to “liberate” the State
From laws too harsh, to hard the job
Of staying home ‘till later dates
It’s incongruent and ironic
That these Trumpean fanatics
Act in ways I’d label tragic
In the face of this pandemic
Where more of them will end up dead
Prolonging what they now protest
With Trump supporting them instead
Of telling them what’s for them best
To follow laws the Governor
Has ruled on social distancing
Trump’s tails or heads on every score
His chance of losing he’s enhancing

I agree that trump is not in touch with reality but we will have to open up the economy when there is still risk. It is easy to criticize Trump, but what are your ideas on when and how to restart the economy with the least risk. Ie. when we go to war to defend our country we agree to accept a mortality rate in order for our country to survive. What risk are we willing to take now to save the country?? As I see it, until we have a vaccine the government needs to make sure we have enough tests, Personal protective equipment, respirators and hospital beds etc. Then the risk should be low enough to open the economy. The government has the power to do this and there is no excuse for them not making this happen.

I think that once more statistical data is gathered it will be possible to estimate disease and death statistics more confidently. Your question would then be what might be the thresholds for opening sectors of the economy. New York’s approach as I understand it, once new daily deaths are in the low to single digits, to gradually open less population-dense public and commercial activities and checking the resultant disease and death statistics. If they hold steady, go gradually to greater population-density public and commercial activities. If, instead the showed a significant worsening, to pull back on the openings until the statistics stabilized. This is an over simplification since other influences must also be considered. That plus coordination with neighboring states. However, this approach requires good local-testing capability.
