Let’s talk about racism, subject de jour
Trump’s tweets against four Congress women of color
“Go back where you came from.” we’ve most heard before
Is racist in essence, which labels its source
But that’s nothing new, from the first we all knew
That Trump is a racist, has been most his days
The point is it works for Trump, he knows it too
One third of the country approves what he says
Before we pass judgement from our moral heights
We, most, have experienced prejudice raw
Against us and by us while journeying life
The stranger’s not trusted; it is tribal law
Skin color, one’s language, sex preference, you name it
It’s perfectly human; ‘twas there from the start
On our evolution on Earth you can blame it
Fear of the foreign is pumped by our heart
But what sets this country apart from the rest
Officially, we welcome diversity
The source of our strength; helping us be the best
But assimilation brings adversity
Racism most of the country opposes
When publicly wielded by our President
And rightfully so, all the hate it discloses,
But Trump is not setting some new precedent
Our history’s replete with those periods of time
When most immigration was brought to a halt
And with xenophobia sentiment prime
Fearing the stranger, his difference at fault
So we must campaign for enhanced immigration
For welcoming foreigners and those oppressed
To be a bright beacon to all other nations
It’s through immigration our country is blessed

I cannot agree more. As much as we abhor the President’s comments, we are all of us racist to some degree. There is much work to be done, starting at the top.
