Joe

I speak of Joe Biden, today’s talk-show news
The Dem’s female candidates voicing their views
With cable-news commenters egging them on
Is Joe Biden’s chance as a candidate gone?

It all hearkens back to some earlier races
Joe, as was his nature, partook of embraces
With co-campaign women, as gestures of comfort
However, the women experienced discomfort

Since Joe was a powerful, known politician
Their intimidation constrained their admissions
Until the #MeToo movement unlocked their voices
Such knowledge of Joe should impact ballot choices

These women believed Joe had no ill intent
His way of conveying the fondness he meant
But, nevertheless he invaded their space
Without their permission, it wasn’t his place

Will Joe be the target of Dem’s firing squad
Of self-righteous women in Congress, by God?
The #MeToo patrol seeking out male offenders
And force resignations these targets to tender

A lifetime of service, achievements galore
Joe’s championed the causes of women and more
Mistakes he has made which he surely regrets
As one to beat Trump he’s the strongest one yet

I’ve not made my choice yet of whom to support
A rich field of candidates from which to sort
And many with qualities that I find stunning
But I’d mourn his absence if Joe were not running
