Global Threats

Intelligence chiefs early morning all met
With members of Senate’s Intelligence team
To give their assessment of our global threat
The main dangers posed as their agencies deem

Iran’s still complying with non-nuke accords
While building new missiles with great payload-range
The Mexican border: no threat is their word
And with North Korea there’s been little change

True, ISIS has lost territorial gains
But they’re not defeated: guerrilla warfare
With thousands of fighters in ranks they remain
Intent on resurgence to back where they were

Pres. Trump in his tweets disagreed with his chiefs
He called them naive, they should go back to school
He’s smarter than all of them; that’s his belief
But Is Trump the greatest threat: a Russian tool?

Week of Weeks

This week of weeks I do consider
More significant than others
Trump got not his vaunted druthers
Stone indicted, true insider

Trump announced, his voice dejected,
He’s up opening the gov
Most out of pique, not out of love
Since by Pelosi he was bested

Three, the weeks the gov is funded
The team bicameral, bipartisan
Is tasked to hammer out a plan
Secure the border, it’s intended

My guess: it will include some wall
That’s wired smart with many sensors
Trump can claim to his detractors
That he’s winning after all

Roger Stone, the dirty trickster
Signaled Trump that he’s not caving
Mueller’s pressure he’s resisting
Quite unlike Trump’s former fixer

Stone expects a pardon swiftly
Thinking there’ll be no detention
Plus, he revels in attention
I think a pardon is unlikely

Trump would look bad so to choose
As though he’s got a lot to hide
If Mueller wants Stone on his side
He’ll offer what Stone can’t refuse

Two things Trump should have learned this week
The House is not his rubber stamp
The Democrats aren’t in his camp
And Stone to Mueller soon may speak

Pay

In discussing plans political
Recognizing those inimical
To the welfare
And the pain there
Of those people lacking pay

Their wellness worsens day by day

Congress reeks of stubborn factions
Flooring bills that lack of traction
Trump imperious
Is impervious
To that pain from absent pay

The G.O.P. will rue the day

A desperate Trump wants to relate
Before the House the Union’s State
He learned his fate:
‘Twill have to wait

Since Nancy P, will have her way

Out on Two Limbs

When I give opinions I go on a limb
Tonight it’s two limbs, narrow, shaky and frail
The first treats the problem that BuzzFeed is in
What’s next on the shutdown, I’ll try, then, to tell

As has been reported, BuzzFeed’s revelation
Was, partly disputed by Mueller, himself
BuzzFeed doubled down claiming true their position
I say that “you’re right, also you’re right as well.”

In reading the statement Bob Mueller set forth
It focused on evidence backing the plot,
That Trump ordered Cohen to lie under oath,
BuzzFeed thought it adequate, Mueller did not

Pres. Trump’s in a cul-de-sac lacking off-ramps
His, quote, compromise is bipartisan dead,
But Mitch’s position is in Donald’s camp
He’ll put Trump’s desires to vote, he has said

On losing, bipartisan, Trump’s compromise
McConnell will stall ‘till his Senators break
They’ll force a floor veto-proof vote they’ll devise
To shut off Trump’s shutdown for everyone’s sake

The Beat

And the beat goes on
News devours the clock
BuzzFeed feeds a new shock
Mueller says a bit wrong
Government remains shut
Trump proposes his plan
DACA safe for three years
In exchange for his wall
Either nothing or all
Dems reject it with jeers
And the beat goes on
Government remains shut
People near to wits end
And the message they send
Open government up
And to hell with the wall!
But the talks remain stalled
Petty pranks fill the void
And the beat goes on

Clear and Present Danger

“Clear and Present Danger”

I’m quoting Dave Laufman, the near recent Chief
Of DOJ’s Counter Intelligence team,
Who spoke on the Maddow show making his brief
Concerning the President’s secretive scheme

Of working for Russia, which Trump has denied
But facts dictate otherwise context and deed
Concealment of Putin talks on which he lied
Parroting Putin accepting his creed

In previous poems I’ve reached this conclusion
M. Nance did two years ago in his then book
It’s clearly been obvious, not an illusion
The question’s what’s next, really where should we look?

In Need of a Savior

Two subjects I’ve recently written about
I’ve got more to say that my mind’s working out
Involving the shutdown, involving some views
On FBI’s counterintelligence news

The shutdown’s solution seems further away
It’s pain is out spreading each day after day
The blame game is vacuous; neither side wins
Though people are hurting both sides have dug in

And into this maelstrom of negative news
The Times had reported that Trump’s been accused
Of being an agent of Russia, no less
By FBI counterintelligence men

The fact that our President could be suspected
An enemy agent is unprecedented
And should raise alarm bells all throughout the nation
So far it’s been met not with strong indignation

But scorn for the person who leaked all the data
By Senate Republicans shielding Trump’s status
But even more worrisome throughout this land
No strong demonstrations of where people stand

They are so caught up in the shutdown’s full impact
And numb to Trump’s misdeeds, distortions of true facts
The normalization of Trump’s misbehaviors
Democracy may be in need of a savior

Breaking News

News breaking tonight by the Times of New York
Reporting on something we early suspected
The FBI opened as part of their work
An investigation of Trump as reflected

By Trump’s strange behavior: the Comey dismissal
Plus other strange actions with Russian involvement
A counter-intelligence probe made official
Back then, against Trump, Putin’s puppet apparent

M. Nance had concluded this two years ago
His book on democracy, Putin’s big plot
To cause our destruction, a war of info
With Trump as their agent. They liked what they got

But now that Trump’s agency cover is blown
His value’s diminished, his usefulness gone
Vlad Putin will drop him as Trump is undone
It’s my estimation he’ll not carry on

Misery

As misery spreads everywhere in the nation,
As payday is empty, a dire situation
Trump threatens declaring a state of emergency
To get his wall built even though there’s no urgency

But Trump could care less if a wall is a go
He’s had opportunities answering no
What Trump wants is conflict with him at its core
A chance to blame Democrats ever the more

But people are worried and soon will be desperate
Which may cause behaviors becoming intemperate
But that’s not Trump’s worry; he thinks not of them
His face he will lose if he yields to the Dems.

But Nancy and Chuck can’t let Trump have his way
Or he’d shut down the government any old day
It would be his leverage to get what he wants
To hell with the people as power he flaunts

The key to achieving a true resolution
Resides with McConnell; he is the solution
The Dem’s legislation to open the gov.
Could pass overriding Trump’s veto above

But Mitch is still fuming from Trump’s turn about
Saying he’d sign the bill, then he backed out
So let the Trump stew o’er events of his making
And Mitch will eschew action he could be taking

Before not so long pain will grow to unbearable
Reps. In the Senate will feel pressure terrible
And on Mitch McConnell they’ll finally prevail
To open the government, and they won’t fail

Danger

Everyone knows that The Trump is unfit
To lead this great nation, Commander-in-Chief
He’s not just unfit but a danger to whit
Should a valid emergency bring untold grief

So, what’s to be done, what’s the Congress to do?
To the New Democrats quick impeachment’s the goal
But that won’t yet work; Senate won’t follow through
With a conviction although that’s their role

The senior Dem. leadership understands this
They’ll wait for Bob Mueller, they’re not in a hurry
But that may take time; time that will not exist
When clear danger’s present. That, then, is the worry

It’s also not certain that Mueller’s report
Will be, thus, transparent revealing the facts
A Donald Indictment would land in the courts
It’s not the solution most Democrats back

House’s Intel Committee, Judicial as well
Intend to be active in probing Trump’s actions
With transparent hearings like Trump show and tell
Informing true facts to Republican factions

When Senate Republicans start to break ranks
It’s then that impeachment could likely succeed
In ousting The Trump as his ratings all tank
Not easy, but what our democracy needs
