An Undone Deal

This tale is of two senator friends
One was blue and one was red
Judiciary sat both men
‘Twas there Friday early that morning

The blue, Chris Koons, the red, Jeff Flake
Were there to vote on Kavanaugh’s fate
Jeff Flake had said that he’d vote a yea
A done deal there late Friday morning

But two things happened Jeff to sway
Two ladies stopped him on his way
To join the hearings; had their say
He should be voting strongly nay!

And in the hearings Chris spoke out
The whole procedure put in doubt
Judiciary’s wielding clout
Unfairly there on Friday late in the morning

And Jeff by Chris was clearly moved
They conferenced in a separate room
Then other blues joined with the two
To conference Friday late in the morning

Jeff’s deal was he would not vote aye
The nomination, thus would die
Unless they called the FBI
A one-week probe to find the lies

As such the done deal was undone
The Senate Dems. this round had won
And Kavanaugh is likely gone
‘Twas there Friday late in the morning

Lindsey and Judicial Listenings

Lindsey and Judicial Listenings

Today I question Lindsey Graham, the senator
Who started kissing Donald’s bottom realm
Trump turned you so around and promised you
Perhaps, post voting’s firings as Trump will do,
The offer of old Foggy Bottom’s helm
The fate of State, for you to be inheritor

We witnessed in these mock Judicial listenings
Where questions by Ms. Mitchell and by Democrats
Were deemed too tough for Kavanaugh to answer
Caused Graham on cue to loudly scold said senators
For so interrogating Brett as though inquisitors
This set the stage: Judicial Reps. no words to spare
In praising Brett how great his juris facts
And damning Democrats for gross conspiring

Although Professor Ford was most convincing
In clearly stating her traumatic tale
And to her questioners was forthright answering,
Committee Reps. behaved as though she failed

Meanwhile Brett Kavanaugh had come out swinging
He pouted and he shouted and he cried
He blamed the Dems for hatching a conspiracy
As retribution having lost the presidency
Accusing them of stories full of lies
But dodged all questions: why not FBI?

Judiciary’s quest for truth’s a sham
Just politics, by god, all else be damned

Red Flag Red Flag

Evan-jelly-cals hell bent on Kavanaugh for SCOTUS
No matter allegations unresolved
Otherwise they’ll hold their votes and pocket books
And in the mid-terms they won’t get involved

Red flag, red flag for Trump and Mitch McConnell
Rush, rush to get their nominee approved
No matter what the hearings might reveal
And further allegations that have loomed

Judiciary, what have you become?
A rubber stamp for Mitch and Trump to wield
No FBI, no witnesses to hear from
What IS Bret hiding; what’s he trying to shield?

Republicans have made a mockery of justice
And any semblance of the law and truth
They’ve placed our legal system on a precipice
And sullied SCOTUS in their rush, to boot

We’re witnessing historical occurrences
Democracy itself might not survive
The utter disregard for norms and precedence
Is what can cause democracy to die

Rod

So Rosenstein’s the subject of a spat
Accused of anti-Trump pronouncements that
He may have made some fifteen months ago
When he was new and not much in the know

Dismiss him! scream Trump’s loyal far-right folks
Here’s your excuse. This time it’s not a joke
Except Sean Hannity, who sees conspiracy
Don’t fire him now. Turnout would soar, you see

Meanwhile, Rod says the New York Times is wrong
He’s never urged Trump’s ouster all along
He’s worked to do Trump’s bidding where he can
Providing what Trump asks for, secrets sans

But should Trump fire Rod, Bob and the team
‘Twould buy him little so it clearly seems
Grand juries have the power to continue
With the probe as part of their own venue

And Mueller’s farmed out aspects of the task
To jurisdictions not within Trump’s grasp
Trump’s actions would be viewed as overreach
Making likely more, he’d be impeached

Judiciary

An outside counsel? Hey, no way!
Chuck Grassly, why are you afraid
To be seen questioning this maid,
What Dr. Blasey has to say?

And why no FBI new probe
And what’s Judge Bret hell bent to hide
He knows the truth’s not on his side
That he could lose his judge’s robe

It’s clear Christine is super sharp
She’s got Chuck Grassly jumping hoops
His blatant lies is where he stoops
He’s met his match; she’ll do her part

My own opinion hasn’t changed
That Kavanaugh won’t be confirmed
Too big a risk for these mid-terms
And Trump will really come unhinged

9/20/18

Confirmation

Kavanaugh won’t be confirmed;
Not due to justice being served
Not based on Christine Blasey’s word
However valid her words were

The Reps. will want to carry on
No matter testimony heard
Corroboration there upon
Just hurry, get it done’s the word

But that will matter not at all
The general public will be swayed
Enough some senators would fall
And lose their seat they are afraid

What happens next is just a guess
If Democrats the Senate gain
These midterms, the deciding test
To keep the SCOTUS balanced sane

It’s One Thing

It’s one thing to see inaugural crowds that clearly were not there
It’s one thing to see New Jersey people dance as Towers fell
It’s one thing to claim three million votes illegal, lies laid bare
It’s something else to discount lives, three thousand deaths in all

You must convince your precious base that you are never wrong
But empathy you haven’t got; you feel for only you
You must convince your precious base that you’re supremely strong
But weakness shrouds your inner core no thoughts for others, true

I find it sad to go through life not knowing love that’s free
Where deaths of thousands people real to you is just a stat
To so refute since they are mute they cannot disagree
While blind you are to other’s grief; their loved ones where they’re at

It’s something else to discount lives, three thousand deaths in all
It truly best defines you, Trump, a man, an empty shell

9/13/18

Deep Throat

We witnessed a modern Deep Throat in the Times
Anonymous person(s) who wrote an Op Ed
Ranked as Trump’s “senior staff”, writing so fine
A blistering narrative, staffers in dread

Of Trump; he’s erratic, impulsive and mad
He’s losing his memory, losing his mind
Extreme paranoia, the outlook is bad
Unfit to be President, that’s what he finds

Of course all the pundits of cable and Press
Are focusing, figuring who Deep Throat be
And, too, in the West Wing they frantically guess
But senior staff members all say: “It’s not me!”

Deep Throat also said there are others like him
They’re acting as guard rails containing the man
They countermand orders ignoring his whims
To maintain good governance, given they can

Some say he’s a coward, that he should resign
Trump labeled him gutless, a traitor and worse
Some claim: “nothing new, we’ve known that for some time”
But no one has claimed false his chapter and verse

The evidence mounts Trump is unfit to serve
While, behind his back his staff’s running the show
The country’s in danger, Deep Throat must be heard
Help! Help! he is shouting; this man’s got to go!

And where is the outcry from Congress? I ask
Whose silence is deafening. Courage? What’s that?
There’s only one way we can take Trump to task
To vote the Reps. out in November, that’s what!

Judge Brett Kavanaugh

At his hearings Judge Kavanaugh gave a good speech
Filled with what for-SCOTUS candidates preach
Up holding not molding the laws of the land
He’d be non political where he would stand

He spoke as a son, as his daughters’ dad too
As coach for their basketball team as dads do
His teaching, his interns, an all-around guy
But refused to shake hands with Fred Guttenberg. Why?

Fred’s young daughter, Jamie, at Parkland was killed
But Brett is opposed to all gun-safety bills
His archly-conservative writings reveal
How much his case judgements partook of his zeal

One paper he published concerned prexy power
It’s why Trump had chosen him, there in Trump Tower
He claimed current precedence badly was flawed
A person, while President’s above the law

His hearings, this morning, chaotic and frayed
The Democrats, fuming all called for delay
Reports, more than one hundred thousand, were hid
From Dems. about actions that Kavanaugh did

As Counsel to Bush through the war in Iraq
And claims he had made not born out by the facts
But Grassly refused and the show will go on
The hearing’s a travesty, Trumpean con

Our President mired in felonious deeds
Selected a candidate based on his needs
For someone who’d save him when he came to trial
With Reps. rushing hearings o’er such a short while

Buried Today

A national hero was buried today
Hallelujah and Amen
Not only a hero but also a man
Who’s life was of honor and serving the land
That he loved so much; in her grace he did stay
Hallelujah and Amen

A national statesman was buried today
Hallelujah and Amen
All those in the Senate, when he made a stand,
All knew he was honest, with lines in the sand
Not voting convenience; that wasn’t his way
Hallelujah and Amen

A man twice defeated was buried today
Hallelujah and Amen
To Presidents Bush and Obama he lost
In dignity praised them at personal cost
And chose them for eulogies memorial day
Hallelujah and Amen

My very own senator to rest was lain
Hallelujah and Amen
‘Though not of my party; I disagreed much
He, still I respected, his down to earth touch
God bless you and keep you Sen. John McCain
Hallelujah and Amen
