As Most of You Know

As most of you know
We’ve felt the pain of loss
A grownup son
As most of you know
We now are three generations
Of military active duty
Though none of us in combat

As most of you know
My life’s work has been Defense
Good friends and colleagues
Killed in battle
Weeping, struggling families left behind

I weep inside, each Gold-Star parent’s loss
I take offense at Trump’s true lack of empathy
The only pain he feels
Concerns himself
And way down deep within his soul is emptiness

Trump’s lack of felt humanity
Incapable of feeling other’s pain
Is yet the biggest danger that I see
Writ large a holocaust by Trump, the man’s insane

Random Thoughts

California’s much on fire; Puerto Rico’s under water
Korea North is up in arms; Iran’s Accord is almost void
Russia messing our elections; Afghanistan forever war
Congress struggling with taxes; ISIS losing in Iraq

Trump, on kneeing, keeps on tweeting
Seems oblivious the rest
On him such tragedies are fleeting
But taking credit he’s the best

Let’s take a higher view of things, from twenty thousand feet
The Western World is struggling with multi racial life
Resulting from technologies, the shrinking of the world
The lands that once were white were white some 60 years ago

The World is spinning much too fast
Turn back the clock, off let me be
I was once happy in the past
When neighbors all resembled me

My Daddy was a miner, coal was king, those were good times
Then I became a miner ‘till they shut the coal mines down
So what the hell am I to do, I only know to mine?
It’s climate change and all that rot that took my job away

Displacement is a fancy word
For workers losing work
Retraining often is absurd
Where one could go berserk

Nine months that Trump’s been President accomplishments are nil
Everything Obama, he’s torn down most out of spite
He must take pleasure in the pain that he inflicts on people.
It is his way, we rue the day that Trump e’re came to power

Trump is a Nero, self absorbed
A throwback to imagined past
With mannerisms gross, untoward
But like all else, he, too, won’t last

Trump Speak

Once upon the spoken word
Those broken phrases we have heard
A dialect unique, absurd
Or comments better off deferred

The code of Trump, what thus we glean
His phrases, what they really mean
A true translation, coming clean
It’s known as Trump-speak, really keen

“Believe me” means it isn’t true
While “fake-news”: can’t deny
“Was told” means that he made it up
Not very big is “huge”
“I’ll tell you in two weeks”: that’s never
“I’m best at all and I know more”
He heard it all on Breitbart News
“My base are really, really great”
“Those stupid dolts believe my tweets”
But they’re so “very, very, very not bad”

It’s now your turn to have your say
Your favorite Trump-speaks of the day
By Comment, Email, either way
And if you don’t that, too’s okay

Years of Chaos

McConnell is gung ho on Trump’s denial
To certify compliance with the deal
This bodes not well for future deal revival
New sanctions would the whole agreement kill

They claim this gives Iran a future path
To nuclear technology. They say
That in a few short years, Iran could have
The means for making bombs. It is their way

However, the inspections would continue
On, beyond the ten years of phase one
And it’s now known Iran in just a few
Short months we’re ready nuclear tests to run

But if the Congress sanctions reimpose
And nullifies the UN resolution
Despite the hardship US sanctions pose
Iran would gain from any such solution

They’d secretly buy everything they need
From North Korea and from Pakistan
And so would others in the Middle East
Ignore proliferation treaty bans

And once the genie, nuk, escapes its vase
And we have lost our standing in the world
No putting of it back; that is the case
Then years of chaos fate will at us hurl

Trump’s Biggest Mistake

What’s Congress now supposed to do
Since they’ve been tossed the hot potato
While Trump our credibility destroyed
The signatories all incredibly annoyed
No longer leader, we once were de facto
They’ve sixty days to levy sanctions new

And if they do, that abrogates the deal
Iran could then resume its nuc ambitions
And we’d be isolated in that action
The other nations wouldn’t join with sanctions
Nor have we leverage to impose restrictions
This makes the likelihood of war quite real

Since our Agreements now cannot be trusted
The North Koreans have strong rationale
To build their nuclear weapons in defense
With Trump, it is the path which makes most sense
The US can in faith no longer deal
And there’ll be many ways that we’ll be tested

Hooray!

Hooray! Hooray! The world survived Pres. Trump another day!
Each day of Trump survival is another day that’s good
Since we all recognize behavior simply understood
To be psychotic and erratic witnessing his way
Each day Trump keeps from nuking North Korea or Iran
Is yet another day to celebrate, perhaps ‘twill stay his hand.
In any case Republicans have eyes but remain blind
They see their dreamed-of tax cuts; seven years its been in mind
They’re hoping Trump won’t blow us up before their bill is signed
As if it made a difference in the US GDP
Although some funds might make it home from holdings overseas
Let’s hope Republicans are right and Trump behaves as should
Each day of Trump survival is another day that’s good

Coming Unglued

Lots of urgency that’s facing us tonight
People dying daily; Puerto Rico’s toll
FEMA has no supervision, lack of oversight
Moving at a snail’s pace, abrogating FEMA’s role

Fires in California burning up and down the state
Structures by the thousands been devoured in smoke and flames
Brush fuel was explosive, that plus winds accelerate
The rapid fire expansion; climate-change is what to blame

But the story most disturbing are accounts from White-House staff
That the President’s demeanor has deteriorated worse
He has claimed he hates his staff; he’s unraveling, acting daff
Neither Kelly nor McMaster can contain him as his nurse

Corker sounded the alarm: Trump is dangerously not okay
But Ryan most deliberately mislabeled this a feud
Trump’s likely to take action on Iran and on N K
His actions could change everything: agreements come unglued

This is the calm before the storm; the storm is what comes next
It could be war with North Korea; many thousands dead
It could be Trump accepting not Iran’s conforming tests
Whatever ‘tis, we look upon the future with some dread

2231

You may not believe it nor even conceive it
But the JCPOA, our deal with Iran
Is not with nations pursuing the ban
Despite how News treats it, or how Trump might tweet it
The deal is the UN res. 2 2 3 1

Compliance with terms and defined practice norms
Are determined by the Atomic Energy Agency
And not by the US, Trump’s current fantasy
Trump’s lack of acceptance despite the inspections
Will little affect its continued legitimacy

However if Congress decides it should transgress
The terms of the JCPOA,
Which Iran hasn’t yet disobeyed,
And impose brand new sanctions which would be infractions
Then a new Nuc. device Iran soon will have made

WWIII

Mr. Chairman we salute thee
Like it is, it’s what you said
Trump’s recklessness is in zone red
Propelling us to World War Three

Robert Corker’s no light weight
He chairs the Senate Foreign Relations
Well respected o’er the nation
He’s worried about the world’s fate

Gen. McCaffrey put it bluntly
We are headed straight for war
Trump seems decided that’s the score
Rejecting all diplomacy

My own opinion differs some:
Trump is bluffing, Kim’s aware
A war would be beyond repair
And neither wants to act so dumb

Chuseok

Chuseok (chu-sak)

Korean harvest festival (Thanksgiving)
15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar
Full moon
Coincides with the Hebrew Sukkot harvest festival

Chuseok

The Koreans are real people
Just like the Jews …and even the non-Koreans
And even the non-Jews

Did the Nazis know that?
Did our soldiers committing the No Gun Ri South Korean massacre know that?
Does Mr. President All Mighty Trump know that?

Atrocities are only committed on sub-humans
By humans of even lesser standing

Of course we can beat Kim Jong conventionally militarily
Several hundred thousand Koreans, North and South would be killed
But American casualties would be relatively minor

Koreans North and South just finished celebrating Chuseok
Jews in Israel and all around the world are still celebrating Sukkot
Americans soon will be celebrating Thanksgiving
We need to celebrate each other
Celebrating the common-nous of being human

Tell us Mr. President All Mighty Trump
For whom would war be waged?
