Our Hundred Days

The President bemoans his hundred days
By bragging on the many things his done
‘Though lack of legislation he has won
Is not among his current boasting ways

But there are things that Trump has done to date
He’s opened land in Monuments for oil
Allowed coal miners to pollute the soil
And cancelled climate regs I must relate

We’re at the brink of War because of him
The injudicious rhetoric he’s said
Could slay Koreans by the thousands dead
One hundred days of damage by Trump’s whim

In these first hundred days the ones who’ve won
Are grass-roots activists. That’s you, that’s me
We’ve marched, we’ve demonstrated; we’re the key
That stopped Trump’s bills from being voted on

We visited our Reps in their home towns
Demanded “do you job!” At their town halls
And flooded all their phones with all our calls
It made a difference. All Trump’s bills went down

So I salute us, each and every one
We are the winners on this Hundredth Day
But don’t stop here, there’s so much more at play
In fact our work has really just begun

Sipping MacAllan

Sipping MacAllan I ponder the news
I watch and I listen to alternate views
Today was so crowded I hardly could choose
That which aught to be put into verse

Much, today, centered ’round General Mike Flynn
Chaffetz and Cummings got nothing turned in
On Flynn from the White House, their probe to begin
The White House stonewalling, of course

Mike, it is known, took in Russian sourced fees
But obtained no approval as requires DOD
A criminal offense; jail he’s likely to see
Bad things may soon be getting much worse

The Trump health-care plan in its new zombie state
Couldn’t garner the votes; to back burners its fate
It may be resurrected at some future date
And show up in the back of a hurst

Later this evening from Reuters we heard
Trump had announced with belligerent words
Something quite dangerous I find absurd
A major conflict is likely to burst

With North Korea a conflict is likely
It’s likely, it’s likely he said, absolutely
Kim could respond starting war really nasty
Trump’s name then would forever be cursed

It appears that my scotch glass is empty and dry
And the sand man has sprinkled some sand in my eyes
So I’ll bid you good morrow, good night, by and by
Trump, tomorrow, his words, might reverse

Trump’s Tax Reforms

All week we’ve been hearing ’bout Trump’s tax reform
His crowning achievement the first hundred days
Rumor caused markets to rise above norm
Mnuchin this afternoon read what it said

The plan’s not a plan; just a few paragraphs
It is not tax reform, just horrendous tax cuts
It would increase our deficit trillions. We laugh,
Since it won’t get enough of our senators’ votes

It cut corporate rates to just fifteen percent
It abolished the alternate minimum tax
Introduced by Ron Reagan so as to prevent
The wealthy from paying no tax, that’s a fact

It also stopped taxing at death, one’s estate
Which matters at ten-plus-one millions in cash
It’s there to stop fortunes from growing too great
O’re generations, their money to stash

It’s clear that Trump’s plan, which was less than two pages
Is Republican Reaganesque trickle-down nonsense
The plan does but little to raise worker’s wages
GDP growth comes mainly from fair recompense

I find it revealing, when Trump’s plan was shown
The market, just prior, was at all-time highs
The market reversed itself, dropping back down
Signaling knowledge that this plan won’t fly

Mike Flynn II

Chaffetz and Cummings were on stage today
A rare occurrence given our politics
But more to the point is what they had to say
That Flynn might face charges that likely will stick

Flynn’s Russian excursion; Turkey’s there too
His payments from known Kremlin sources
Require disclosure and formal review
No proof there that Flynn really followed this course

Early the House Oversight Committee
Asked of the White House Flynn’s documentation
But Trump refused; Spicer tried being witty
Explaining provision is out of the question

My feeling’s: due-diligence cursorily was done
On those individuals meant for Trump’s team
In Flynn’s case, no paperwork was e’re begun
His status was special, or so it now seems

Just why was he fired as Trump’s NSA
The reasons Trump gave surely do not hold up
Flynn is a mystery unto this day
But when we find out, all Hell will erupt

Something There Is

“Something there is that doesn’t like a wall”
The poet, Frost, preempted pundits all
Making the point most politicians know
We’ll build no wall that borders Mexico

Promises made back on the campaign trail
Passing their bills, these promises all fail
Obama-Care and forcing a Muslim ban
Didn’t succeed and really never can

Tax bills won’t pass, Trump surely soon will learn
Not so unless Trump shares his tax returns
Which he will not. With holdings far afield
Conflicts of interest surely would be revealed

First hundred days, little to show for it
Full of conflicts, each day, they never quit
Next hundred days, Trump being Trump of fame
I’d expect most things to end the same

Five Culprits

Updated by Rachel on her Friday show
About Trump collusion, more probable now,
Five suspects and counting, there’s more we’ll soon know
All secretly met with some Russians some how

These undisclosed meetings at first were denied
No mention of these on security forms
Withholding such info, they blatantly lied
That’s grounds for confinement to barred entrance rooms

So who are these former Trump-campaign top guns
Who held secret meetings with Soviet Intel
Both during and after elections were run
And why the necessity? Time will soon tell

Let’s start with Jeff Sessions, now General Attorney
Then young Jared Kushner, Trump’s own son-in-law
And, too, Michael Flynn, NSA, ousted early
And, too, Carter Page, whom their goons early saw

Perhaps the most intriguing last-standing man
Is tough Eric Prince now of Blackwater fame
Whose armed mercenaries in Afghanistan
Were having sex orgies which cast us in shame

Just nine days before the Trump crowning took place
Prince, as Trump’s envoy, met most secretly
With Putin’s own envoy; they met face to face
In the Isle of Seychelles, remote as can be

In the Indian Ocean near the African coast
Of course Trump denied all this vehemently so
So why all these meetings? Trump’s name’s turning toast
Looks more like collusion the more that we know

Upcoming Hundredth Day

First hundred days
We’d amazed
O’er legislation we’ll be dazed
First: R&R
Of ACA
Then tax reform
It’s on the way
And infrastructure’s
Way ahead
It’s easy, folks
That’s what Trump said
Back on the stump

Those claims of Trump
Are now quite dead
It’s panic mode
So we are told
Must R&R the ACA
A zombie of Trump’s prior bill
Completed by the hundredth day
With Democrats
He’ll make a deal
If they’ll sign on, it’s understood
He won’t defund Planned Parenthood

No way Jose
No Dems will bite
And Reps internally will fight
I think the ACA is safe
And what Trump shows
The hundredth day
Is one for four
Trump got his way
With Gorsuch on the Court Supreme
No major legislation done
It’s been downhill since Trump’s day one

This is for real. It’s not a dream

4/22/17

Chaffetz

Rep. Jason Chaffetz quite soon might resign
As Utah’s third district’s strong man in the House
And Oversight Chairman,
The House’s repairman
His reasons for quitting: his children and spouse
If those were true reasons, why leave at this time?

With Trump now as President, oversight’s difficult
Too many conflicts of interest to plow through
Trumpean real estate
Russian collusion-gate
Meanwhile Republican brass though on cue
Did not want his findings to reach true results

But there is an underside lurking behind his move
Rumors of scandal both sexual and fraud
A mistress revealing
By Russian blackmailing
And Ryan and Mitchel, dark money involved
Before this went public he must be removed

It seems those responsible investigators
Whether in Treasury or in the House
Soon will be leaving
Which leaves me believing
That cover-up forces are active about
To mask Trump’s corruption and some legislators

Who Knows

,

The day before yesterday Tillerson said
Iran is compliant full with the Agreement
Today Trump accused them defaulting instead
Somehow on its spirit. Who knows what Trump meant

Trump further described how it’s all in review
Telling Iran that we might yet back out
I doubt any part of Trump’s rantings is true
But clearly Iran must be harboring doubts

And so must Pyongyang do some wondering too
Is Trump really thinking preemptive attack
Or is Trump just venting as he seems to do?
Meanwhile, Kim’s preparing his next tests, in fact

And when they take place as most surly they’ll try
What’ll be Trump’s response; will he start our next war
Of course without Congress; or let this go by
With stiffening sanctions? Who knows what’s in store

4/20/17

Day Ninety

Where do we stand after ninety days Trump
His one real accomplishment: Gorsuch is SCOTUS
It took going nuclear, else he’d been dumped
The ACA R and R fizzled for POTUS

Meanwhile, Trump’s made things much worse now for workers
A litany of safety regs he has abolished
Protecting the company over the worker
All of the regs. that Obama established

Of top rate importance are foreign affairs
A tomahawk message Trump sent off to Syria:
Deploy Sarin gas and we’ll ………. ! be aware
But Syria’s not telling her threshold’s criteria

Then there’s North Korea where we’re near the brink
Of war, likely nuclear, who knows what’s next
All this being managed by those, who you’d think
Knew what they were doing, but seem out of context

And still in the background are investigations
Collusion with Russia by Trump’s top officials
Violations of conflicts-of-interest relations
Trump’s first ninety days certainly have been special
