Aftermaths to big events are often hard to analyze
Especially when they’re felt throughout the world
And just when you’re convinced there won’t be any more surprises
Another bomb financially absurd the Trump then hurls
You tend to think that he’s gone mad, six trillion dollars lost so far
A tariffs trade war with those who were once our allies loyal
But traders most astute will recognize just where we are
That Trump will u-turn; countries will, then, kiss the ring that’s royal
With opportunities galore; the market being grossly over sold
Due to panic selling, while Trump spent his days at golf
A month ago I liquidated most of stocks I hold
I think it’s time to buy back in, perhaps, at roughly half
By this I’m not advising you, just telling my intent to do
A master con man Trump still is; a fortune he and his will make
I’m not foreseeing future sights, just following the logic through
The next few days will prove me right or wrong, for heaven’s sake

Tariffs, Tariffs Whoopi!
Tariff-Trump, or TT, I shall label him for short
He struck today, a big, big way beyond his normal sport
His victim countries numbered fifty nine and maybe more
He plans to levy Tariffs on them all across the board
It’s TT’s way to make his victim trading countries pay
Since TT has convinced his MAGAs: tariffs work that way
Be it’s not so, the largest victim is the U.S.A.
Consumers, you and me, we pay that tax, end of the day
Tariffs were invented to rebalance net goods flow
When import dollars grow and export dollars drop below
Then negative the net trade balance: country’s money’s gone
This deficit is filled by tariffs, taxing everyone
Our deficit with China, it’s the largest one of all
In billions nearly negative three hundred; one day’s fall
However, most our deficits are less than single digit
Dollars in the billions. Yet each got a TT tariff
Percentage wise the largest tariff, fifty points all told
Was levied on Saint Pierre and Miquelon an island bold
That’s off the toe of Italy, who’s deficit’s three million
They surely don’t deserve the hit; their threat to us so mini
So what does all this mean to you and me, short term and long?
Stock markets crashed four points or more in panic selling strong
Long term, expect inflation rates to soar; employment drop
Expect recession deep and steady ‘till the tariffs stop
These listed things will happen, mark my words and you will see
That is unless the tariffs are removed soon by TT
Then back to TT chaos and confusion – normalcy
Except some dollars fewer I expect for you and me

It’s Been a While
A while it’s been since last I wrote a poelitic poem
It’s zero, not because there’s nothing worth to write
Both Don and Elon issuing bad orders out of sight
And I preoccupied have been with issues of my own
Things not normally newsworthy taking on new life
A tariff war with former trading partners escalating
Key firings and massive layoffs, government mis-functioning
Plus real-time, secret military actions publicized
All levels of the courts have busy been like bumblebees
Striking down Trump’s orders; Constitutional they’re not
And on and on, day after day the news runs cold and hot
I really feel for cablers who choose from what they see
An underlying pattern in the news though details differ
Trump tests his base to ferret out dissent wherever ‘tis
He takes the action; raising outrage, Dems. against what is
Courts then reject it, causing chaos. Trump then tries it stiffer
And so, dear reader, thank you for your patience and support
It’s my intention to continue once my issues are resolved
Then I’ll concentrate on details, how I would the problem solve
Until that time I wish you well. It’s been my pleasure, been my sport

Emptiness
Disaster and catastrophe, chaotic and confusion
Words that used to have a meaning with emotions
Deeply felt
Now you hear them on TV describing Trump’s
Most recent doings
And you take but little notice as such words
Go flying by
Hardly do they capture all the misery created
When a father tells his family he’s no longer
Got a job
Looking bleakly at his future, knowing not
What’s next to do
There is no word that captures this
His emptiness describes it all
But cable anchors have to talk
‘Though empty words are all they’ve got
Meanwhile the Pres. does mindlessly
Destroy the workings of the government we
Used to have
Along with our economy
As well as former allies gone
Our treaties with them now are empty words
From where does Trump derive his power?
From his MAGA base who threaten those in office
As Republicans
And therein dwells the true source of Trump’s strength
Congressional Republicans afraid
To lose their seats
They witness all misery their cowardice achieves
With emptiness

Threshold, A Sonnet
Threshold, A Sonnet
Reporters like, with smarty pants, to say
We’re clearly at a once historic threshold
Something new that will be here to stay
While ridding us of thresh that״’s very old
So tell me what does threshold real mean?
To keep the rotten threshing ever out
And only let in thresh that’s cut and clean
That is its purpose, I’ve but little doubt
We’re at an anti-threshold I would say
Where Trump is anti-thresh there at the door
His very being rotten to the core –
But demonstrate, that is the way to stay
Full democratic, clean and ever fresh
just like the sweetness of the new-cut thresh

Our Way To Win
Our Way To Win
The hallmarks of Trump’s starting days
As President, his second term,
That I deem reprehensible the most
His “Orders” termed “Executive “ his means
Of them one stands out
The shutting down of USAID
Trump’s worst decision ever made
Around the world children by the thousands
Will of hunger and disease
Be dying or be dead
And all because of Trump
The second worst is hard to say
The deportation fear of immigrants
The pardoning of convicts by the thousand
And firing the thousand Agents who convicted them
Those of the FBI, their families too,
Now targeted by the ones whom they convicted
So what is one to do to counter Trump?
It’s protest, protest, protest every way you can
Call senators and congressman no matter what persuasion
Don’t be afraid to demonstrate; this is the right occasion
Just keep it up and don’t give in
It is our way to win

What Say You?
What Say You?
What say you to your teenage son
Who, in his civics class at school,
Is learning of our President
And of the damage he has done
The President – he’s a fool?
Our values since our nation’s birth
Of liberty, of excellence, of law,
Are being cast aside
By one who’s governed by his pride
Complete control – that is his goal
Our grand and great grandsons arrived
To spend with us couple days
Both beautiful, each in his way
The baby is just one year old
He is all boy – and such a joy
What future lies ahead for him?
What teachings will he get in school?
‘Twill be a dictatorial theme?
An Oligarchy, it would seem
It must not be – but thaI see

Calling My Congressmen
Hello there my Senator; Hi, too, my Rep.
I’m calling, not writing, so please pay attention
You must know a coup’s under way – starting steps,
By one, Elon Musk, super rich, need I mention
He has no position of formal authority
He’s not been elected, just simply appointed
By President Trump sans a formal majority
Who’s acting like King; ‘though he’s not been anointed
You know that your power is being usurped
Donald Trump says to fire all FBI agents
Then Musk makes it happen; you’re left in the lurch
Watching Musk who’s. determined to take over government
Is this why you ran for the office you hold?
Is this what your voters of you had expected?
It’s time to take action; it’s time to be bold
To take back the power you got when elected
I challenge you, Senator; challenge you Rep
To hold town-hall meetings to hear our concerns
Then go after Musk/Trump, our challenges met
And save our democracy. Act now! Your turn!

True And True
You may wonder as do I
Trump’s rationale behind his actions
FEMA fired; tell me why
Agents’ knowledge he can’t sanction
They might with him disagree
That’s anathema; cannot be
Laying off of senior generals
Hegseth will do what he’s told
He and Trump’s confirmed new federals
In disputes they’ll always fold
Trump’s convinced that he knows best
Since he’s brighter than the rest
Ukraine gets no further funding
For their war. They’ll have to settle
Social programs cease their spending
Can’t abide the lies they peddle
Trump is only for the wealthy
Funding else he disagrees

In January’s chill, a choice was made, From WHO’s embrace, the U.S. strayed. Yet in the West, where fires consume, Trump stood with Newsom, dispelling gloom.

First Day Rhyme and Reason
Today Pres. Trump revealed his wisdom
His first first day as President
He pardoned those convicted of
Attacking cops protecting him
He called them heroes, patriots
While undermining justice, law
This after swearing to uphold
The Constitution, law of land
They will become his private army
Answering to only him
Above the law; to foment fear
In those who would oppose the Trump
Our now and would-be king
In Trump we’ll see democracy’s demise
Already on day one first blows he’s struck
As President, Trump can do anything
The Court ensured that he cannot be touched
Its my intention, lines that are un-rhymed
To mimic Trump’s regime these next four years
But there’ll reason in what e’er he does
To grow in wealth and keep his power strong

I hope they do something
Rich
You ably express my fears and concerns about Musk and his DOGE.
